A 16-year-old passenger involved in a horrifying car crash made a chilling warning to the learner driver to slow down just moments before he lost control and slammed into a power pole, seriously injuring all passengers.

Jordan Tye Maaka, 19, appeared in Downing Centre Local Court where he pleaded guilty to driving dangerously and injuring four young friends while he drank alcohol in the car.

A statement of agreed facts said Maaka, who was 18 at the time, was driving his mother’s grey Honda Accord unsupervised in the early hours of September 16.

He initially had two mates in the car – aged 15 and 16 – one of whom filmed Maaka driving 100km/h in a 50km/h speed zone about 4.20am.

The Carramar teen collected another two girls, both aged 16, before he drove towards Hurstville, travelling about 110km/h.

Maaka – who was drinking from a drinking a bottle of Canadian Club before passing it to his mate – turned the wheel from side to side prompting one of the girls to say, “I want to go home, can you stop?” and “I’m scared,” the documents revealed.

He responded with “yeah yeah yeah you’ll be fine.”

The girl, who was in the centre seat, was holding onto her friend because her seatbelt was not on because it was stuck.

Her friend told her, “don’t be scared. We’ll be all right” but moments later she was the most seriously injured.

Maaka continued driving along Stoney Creek Rd almost 60km/h above the speed limit.

Maaka lost control of the car as he rounded a right bend and it began to rotate before he attempted to regain control.

The car rotated, slid and mounted the kerb before it crashed into a property’s brick fence.

The car spun on impact and collided heavily with a wooden power pole.

People rushed to the scene and called paramedics before Maaka – who was crying – got out of the car and repeatedly said “I’m sorry”.

One of the girl’s legs were trapped but a bystander was able to free her.

The 16-year-old boy was trapped in the car before paramedics freed him.

When paramedics arrived, Maaka and the other boy were sitting against a fence while the girls were lying on the side of the road, with one unconscious.

The other girl was screaming as a large amount of blood spilt from her neck before all were taken to hospital.

She suffered a deep laceration to the left side of her throat which left her jawbone visible.

Her facial nerve was divided and needed stitches and she could be left with a permanent facial deformity.

She also had facial lacerations, abrasion to her chin and a fractured thumb and as of December, she continued to suffer nerve damage to her lip.

The other girl suffered lacerations, deep abrasions to her chest wall and fractures to her pelvis and right hip; and in May this year reported still having a limp from her injuries.

The 15-year-old boy received a spinal fracture and splenic laceration.

The 16-year-old boy had a broken right-shoulder blade, fractured pubic bone and hip joint, bruised lung, 15cm laceration to his head, and facial fractures.

He underwent surgery and self-discharged against medical advice the next day.

The documents said Maaka – who only suffered minor grazes and bruising – had a blood alcohol reading in the mid-range and was driving while suspended due to fine defaults.

Maaka pleaded guilty to aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, three counts of driving furiously causing bodily harm, mid-range drink driving and driving while suspended.

He will be sentenced in Downing Court District Court at a later date.
