Two friends who violently attacked their mates after an alcohol-fuelled party soured, with a pressure cooker lid used as a weapon and at one point a knife held by one of the aggressors, have been convicted.

Aayush Dallakoti, 24, and Bhuwan Maskey, 37, were due to defend charges in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday but both pleaded guilty to affray while Dallakoti also pleaded guilty to damaging property.

Agreed facts tendered to the court state two brothers hosted a house party at their Penshurst home on June 26 where a group of friends, including Dallakoti, all got drunk.

The next morning Dallakoti called Maskey, who had not attended the party, and told him he had been assaulted at the party.

Court documents state Dallakoti and one of the brothers started to argue at the house party. Dallakoti then lunged at the brother and placed his hands around his neck, pushed him onto the couch and punched him in the face.

A bedroom window was smashed during the struggle and when Dallakoti walked out of the house, he pushed over a motorbike and damaged it. Maskey, who was also friends with brothers, picked up Dallakoti the next day and suggested they all talk about what happened at the party.

Dallakoti and Maskey went to the brothers’ home but they all started arguing. The duo pushed the brothers a number of times before Dallakoti kicked one of the brothers in the stomach.

The 24-year-old man then picked up a pressure cooker lid and used it to hit the other brother in the head and at one point Maskey held a knife, causing the brothers to fear for their safety.

Dallakoti and Maskey then left the house and the brothers contacted police, leading to the pair’s arrest.

In court, Dallakoti and Maskey’s lawyer Richard Waldersee said Dallakoti had consumed a lot of alcohol and didn’t remember a lot of the party.

He said since the incident Dallakoti had stopped drinking, recognising alcohol was a problem for him.

The court heard Dallakoti came to Australia from Nepal in 2017 on a student visa, but was now completing a commercial cookery course and works as a landscaper.

Mr Waldersee said Maskey came to his friend’s aid the next morning and found Dallakoti with a bruised face, and had good intentions to rectify the situation before it escalated into violence.

Mr Waldersee said Maskey ran a dumpling delivery business at the time of the incident but had since ceased the business and started work as a cleaner.

Magistrate Jillian Kiely said the incident was serious given there were weapons involved and the violence took place at the victims’ home.

She noted neither man had a criminal history before sentencing Dallakoti to an 18-month community correction order and Maskey to a 12-month community correction order.
