Luke McCormack said his Sydney Junior Rugby Union U14 boys team has “talent to burn’’ and is expecting a great game with their Brisbane rivals in Queensland on Sunday.
But McCormack said there is one thing his young charges must avoid doing if they want to win the match.
“We cannot be dragged into a dogfight,’’ McCormack said.
“They (Brisbane) are sight unseen but I expect they will have a huge pack.
“What we have to do is establish a platform and play our own game, not get drawn into how they want to play.
“We have spoken a lot about just keeping it simple. Our defence is great but we need to keep it simple and let out attack click.’’
McCormack, a long-serving coach in the age group, has major wraps on his young squad and players.
“Our outside backs and front rowers are the best I have ever coached. They are insane,” he said.
“This is a great launch pad. They have eye-watering talent.’’
We take a look at some of the players who are expected to make a mark in the game.
SYDNEY RUGBY UNION U14 PLAYERS TO WATCH
JARRYD KING, RANDWICK
Jarryd is the U14 fullback with plenty of talent.
“He’s not only great at the back but chimes in the backline. He plays like an additional centre,’’ said his coach.
“He is fast and floats on his feet. He’s a pleasure to watch and a pleasure to coach.’’
NICHOLAS KOTARAC, GORDON
Nick is a tight head prop who can “do everything’’.
“He can kick, has a good running game and is good in defence. He’s a player who wants to learn and be in this environment,’’ McCormack said.
“He’s a bit of a gentle giant off the field but on it he’s a monster.’’

Beau is the No. 8 and “as tough as teak’’.
“He’s a really tough player and has a big motor and just goes and goes,’’ McCormack said.
“He’s a bit of a character as well. He’s quite cheeky, likes to play jokes but on the paddock he is very good.’’
FLYNN FARRELL, WESTERN SYDNEY TWO BLUES
Flynn is a halfback from Parramatta and was involved in their state championships win.
“He is the focal point of our attack. He also has a great box kick which is unusual at this age,’’ McCormack said.
“He’s the real deal. He has silky skills.’’

DARCY FELTHAM, WESTERN SYDNEY TWO BLUES
Darcy is in the Gen Blues and a winger “with speed to burn’’.
