Erina Eagles stunning forfeit costs them CCRL top spot in wake of Woy Woy Roosters brawl and alleged racism

The Central Coast Rugby League competition has been thrown into chaos after the First Grade league leaders forfeited their fixture against the controversial Woy Woy Roosters.

Woy Woy fans hit with ban after brawl

Another week, another forfeit on the Central Coast - and this time it came with an almighty sacrifice.

After the Terrigal Sharks made a stand against the Woy Woy Roosters last weekend, another club has joined them on the sidelines.

Erina Eagles, leading the First Grade competition at the beginning of the round, opted to sit out their home fixtures against the Roosters at the weekend, losing top spot in the process.

It’s an extraordinary statement from the club given their standing on the ladder and the potential ramifications when finals come around of not competing for two competition points.

Their stance stems back from a wild weekend involving Woy Woy and Wyong, where a brawl took place after allegations of racial abuse.

The incident is still under investigation from RLCC and police.

The drama took another turn last week when Terrigal opted to sit out the matches as opposed to playing.

Erina and Woy Woy met back in April with the Eagles prevailing 16-4 at Woy Woy.

The forfeit marks Erina’s first ‘loss’ of the season and sees them drop from top spot into second, overtaken by The Entrance after they had a resounding 28-6 victory over Wyong at the weekend.

Woy Woy is scheduled to play against the Dora Creek Swampies this coming round.

RLCC is set to hold a board meeting on Tuesday night.

The Woy Woy Roosters RLFC Facebook page made a simple statement on Saturday afternoon.

“Sticking together” the caption read, drawing 133 reactions, 28 comments and 24 shares on the post.

The admin of the page responded to a comment about ‘p***ed off players at Terrigal and Erina’, stating: “a lot of p***ed off people in this club the way they are being crucified by other clubs”
