QUEENWOOD 1sts cricketer Chloe Brunker has been playing the sport for as long as she can remember.

She is also on a Year 6 Combined Independent Schools team and competed for an under-13 rep team as a nine-year-old.

The Year 5 student and former Mosman Whale is the final Junior Sports Star nominee for the Mosman Daily this year.

Chloe, who turns 11 this month, said she regularly wins the most valued player award in school.

“Last year I also got best and fairest in the under-13s for Manly Shore,” she said.

Cricket for this talented young athlete is a seven-day-a-week passion.

“I have weekday training, a game on the weekend and I train at home too,” she said.

“We have like, a ball on a string that helps me practise my blocking and my driving; it’s homemade.”

Chloe loves wicketkeeping the most.

“It’s a really important job and you’re sort of backing up the wicket, so it’s a really good position,” she said.

“You get lots of catches back there.”

Chloe’s most memorable game was a tight under-13s rep match last year where she was fielding near the wicketkeeper.

“A girl from the opposition hit the ball and it directly hits the top of my kneecap,” she said.

“The bruise just formed straight away, but I threw the ball to the wicketkeeper who knocked the bails off the wicket.”

Chloe said cricket was “really important” to her and she wanted to continue to improve.

“I feel that cricket is a part of me,” she said.

“It’s something I’ve tried to build up to and be good at.”

Chloe thanked her teachers, coaches and the Whales for supporting her junior cricket career.

“I really want to try out for Australia,” she said.

“I want to be like Ellyse Perry because she plays both cricket and soccer,” she said.

“I love playing soccer and cricket too.”

Rebel is the major sponsor of the Junior Sports Star awards. Nominations have closed and finalists will be announced soon.
