PLC Sydney swimmers bring Australian school sport titles form into NSW junior state age champs

They have just won a haul of medals at an Australian meet and now these swimmers have enhanced their swim club’s reputation as one of NSW’s best for youngsters at their latest event.

PLC Sydney’s swim club made their mark at the NSW junior state age championships in Sydney on the weekend.

The club recently collected a staggering 45 medals from the recent Australian school sport championships.

Incredibly this included 15 gold medals, with one of the young swimmers crowned swimmer of the meet.

On the weekend PLC Sydney turned its attention to the junior state age championships at Sydney Olympic Park with the majority of swimmers from the Australian schools competition competing.

“We have a really competitive group of juniors,’’ said coach Brett Winkworth.

“Some have just come back from the school nationals and one of the swimmers, Charlotte (Lim) was Swimmer of the Meet.

“We had five swimmers who individually medalled and the others were part of school relays.

“Who knows what the future holds, but it’s exciting times ahead.’’

Swimmers representing the club over the weekend included PLC Sydney student Charlotte Lim, the top swimmer at the School Sport Australia championships and in Year 5.

Avery Koh, a Year 6 student, is also to swim along with Sofia Bosso-Gardiner, a Year 6 student and Junior School Captain, and Heidi Shumack, a Year 7 student

Winkworth said the club hoped to glean valuable intel from the state age championship meet.

STARS AND STANDOUTS: Swim youngsters turning heads

“We haven’t had a winter season for two years and we also want to see where we are at ahead of the summer season that’s coming,” he said.

And that’s what they did, winning the club pointscore aftter two days of racing.

“It’s a hard thing to do so it’s great for the swimmers,’’ Winkworth said.

Winkworth said it was the fourth win in a row for the club across summer and winter comps.

TOP TEAMS AT THE NSW JUNIOR STATE AGE SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

PLC Sydney claimed the honour of being the top performing club at the NSW stage age junior chamopionships in Sydney

Ryde Carlile and Knox Pymple finished second and third on the pointscore.

The three frontrunners were then followed by Trinity Grammar in fourth, Warringah in fifth and Narrabeen in sixth.

Castle Hill RSL Dolphins were seventh, SOPAC eighth, Gunnedah ninth and Randwick City 10th.
