NRLW: St George Dragons Tegan Dymock, daughter of NRL gun Jim Dymock, making own way

She’s the fearless and big-hitting young gun following in her father’s steps in rugby league but determined to make her own mark. But there’s one thing she admits she is very scared of.

Tegan Dymock is following in her father's footsteps but making her own impact.

When this young gun chose to follow her famous dad into professional rugby league she was determined from the start to forge her own way.

And as long as it doesn’t impact her eyelashes, she’s more than happy to take the big hits of the game. In fact she relishes the physicality.

When Tegan Dymock was hit with such impact in a recent game she was knocked out briefly the thing she was most worried about was any potential damage to one specific area of her face.

“The bruise went from my eye to my nose. It was huge,” said Dymock, who made her starting debut in the Dragons round one match against the Titans and was part of St George’s 16-10 win over the Parramatta Eels where she, captain Kezie Apps and fellow forward Paige McGregor were all sent for head injury assessment.

“I’ve got my black eye in the City v Country under 19 game in March.

“I went to tackle and I got elbowed in the face and passed out. But my eyelashes were okay.

“When I came to my friend said ‘it’s okay it’s okay, your eyelashes are okay’. I love them.”

The physicality of the women’s game is appealing to players.

Dymock started her football career in rugby union with mates at the Maroubra Magic club.

But once she played league, it was game over for the rival code.

“When I was 15 my dad was coaching Cronulla and one of the coaches asked about me and Zali Hopkins because we were playing NSW rugby,” said the daughter of former Magpies, Bulldogs, Eels, NSW and Australian utility Jim Dymock.

The Dragons finished second to the Sydney Roosters last season.

“We came to training and the rest is history as they say.

“I just love rugby league. I think I was born to tackle.

“When I was younger dad made us do jujitsu so I’ve always had that wrestling background.

“I just love smashing someone and then your mates pat you on the back. It gives you energy and gives everyone energy. I love the big hits and shots.’’

The undefeated Dragons will take on the undefeated Roosters at Allianz Stadium at 5.30pm on Friday.
