TEAM OF THE WEEK: ROUND EIGHT

1. Aditi Shidore (Campbelltown Camden)

The only member of the Ghosts line-up to reach double figures, Aditi went on with the job making an unbeaten 57 in her side’s six-wicket victory.

2. Amelia Valdez (Southern Swans)

Despite a constant fall of wickets at the other end, Amelia held firm and patiently guided the Swans out of trouble with a mature knock of 65 off 119 balls.

3. Eve Burke (Manly)

The clever spinner kicked off her day with 1/13 from 10 overs, then teed off with 11 boundaries in a 45-ball innings of 53.

4. Jorja Horan (Gordon)

Picked up a 5-fa in the previous round, and this week earned her spot with the bat. Carried Gordon out of trouble with a commanding 52 from just 43 deliveries.

5. Cosette Thomas (Greater Hunter)

Another quality knock in a losing cause, Cosette arrived at the wicket with Hunter struggling at 4/39. Showed composure and aggression to reach 58 from 52 balls.

6. Katie Abrook (St George-Sutherland)

Another to rescue her side from dangerous territory, Katie lifted the Slayers off the canvas with a match-winning unbeaten 50 from 103 balls.

7. Charlotte Allen (Manly)

The reliable Manly all-rounder struck once again with the new ball, then after taking 3/33 returned to help her side across the line with 25 not out.

8. Charli O’Hare (Penrith)

The glue in Penrith’s innings, the right-hander’s patient 31 from 79 took the side to a position of strength. Made it a day to remember, taking 3/9 with her medium pace.

9. Audrey Kirk (Gordon)

The highly skilled leggie continues to improve across the opening rounds. Ripped out four of Greater Hunter’s the top-five on the way to a season best 6/35 from 10 overs.

10. Madison Eddie (Campbelltown Camden)

Unlucky not to have had more success in her opening spell, Madison returned with a bee in her bonnet and ripped out the final three Bankstown wickets in consecutive balls to finish with 4/7 from 6.3 overs.

11. Holly Barnett (Sydney University)

Holly was in no mood for warm ups at Sydney Uni. Maximising her height to full advantage, the big quick rocked the Swans’ top order with a hat-trick from her first three deliveries.

ROUND EIGHT WRAP

Storms were a key feature as rain interrupted round eight of the U18s Brewer Shield, but they couldn’t stop one wicket-starved quick from turning the tables.

The Southern Swans took their first hit of the season on a weekend that finished with a new leader at the top of the table. Full wrap.

SURPRISE TRIPLE STRIKE

An unlikely mix of bad weather and a stunning hat-trick from Sydney University’s Holly Barnett have combined to wash away the Southern Swans’ perfect start to the season.

Chasing an eighth consecutive victory, the Swans headed north and after opting to bat at St Paul’s Oval quickly found themselves under the blowtorch when Barnett was handed the ball after nine overs.

Up until that point, the towering right-armer had only taken one wicket for the entire season.

Bang, bang, bang!

And just like that, the Leichhardt junior was mobbed by adoring teammates after she knocked over three Country reps with her first three deliveries in a blitz that left Southern on the rocks at 4/17.

Nicola Hudson was first to go, before Ella Yates and Ebony Winston both had their furniture rearranged.

“Holly has always had the potential to get wickets, and today, I think it finally clicked,” said Sydney University coach Daniel Nader following his side’s narrow DLS victory.

“She’s probably been a bit unlucky as well. Last week she was our standout player, and deserved maybe three or four wickets.

“We’ve been working hard with her on how to get wickets, making sure she uses her height in combination with our other tall bowlers. She attacked the stumps today and brought the ball back in to help create more opportunities.”

In a day full of ups and downs, opener Amelia Valdez (65 off 119 balls) rescued the innings as the Swans recovered before the last wicket fell with the score on 124.

“Holly strained her quad during her first delivery,” Nader said of Barnett, whose final figures of 3/10 were matched by leg spinner Diksha Chowdhary.

“She came off after her second over and then went back out but found it too difficult and is now resting up.”

Another 18 overs were bowled before rain washed away the remainder of play with Uni stranded on 3/51 in reply. In the end it proved to be enough, and with a 4-4 record Uni climbed to seventh on the ladder.

SOLID AWAY VICTORY

Manly got the better of Sydney by six wickets in a rain reduced contest at Birchgrove Oval. After restricting Sydney to 9/152, the visitors reeled in a revised target of 119 inside 30 overs.

Eve Burke was the star. In another fine all-round performance, the Manly spinner kept Sydney’s innings in check with 1/13 from 10 overs before she opened the shoulders, blazing 11 boundaries in a confident knock of 53 from 45 balls.

Charlotte Allen (3/33) and Lily Crabbe (2/19) were outstanding with the new ball for Manly, while Sydney were best served by the late order heroics of Saskia Taylor (34* off 60) and captain Hannah Rose (37 off 38) who added 48 for the seventh wicket.

Allen (25* off 43) returned with the bat to cap off a fine day, and alongside Burke the pair carried Manly to its sixth victory with a crucial 74-run partnership.

TABLE TOPPER

Gordon moved to the top of the table in spectacular fashion after downing defending premiers Greater Hunter Coast on the road at Townson Oval.

Audrey Kirk was the star of the seven-wicket victory. In 10 mesmerising overs of leg spin, the right-armer bagged an incredible 6/35 as the Hunter girls crashed to be all out for 111.

Kirk removed the bulk of the top order and was well supported by keeper Emilia Billinghurst who took a catch and completed two stumpings.

If not for Cosette Thomas, Hunter’s day would have ended much earlier. Coming in at 5/42, she took charge in a stand-alone knock of 58 from just 52 balls.

Gordon stumbled in reply, but the three early wickets were offset by returning opener Diya Sambrane and in-form all-rounder Jorja Horan who knocked off the remaining 69 runs in 12 overs.

Sambrane batted through for an unbeaten 30, while Horan blasted 52 not out from 43 deliveries.

GHOSTS HAT-TRICK

Campbelltown Camden’s Madison Eddie stole the show with a hat-trick in the Ghosts’ six-wicket win over Bankstown.

The rising quick set the scene in the early overs at Grahame Thomas Oval when she held onto a return catch to dismiss Ava Gaughan. With Bankstown on the ropes at 7/92, she returned to wrap up the innings in three consecutive deliveries.

Aditi Shidore caught the first before the right-armer did it all herself, hitting the stumps with the next two balls to close out the innings.

In reply, Shidore guided the visitors through several nervous moments to remain 57 not out as the Ghosts completed their second win in the 24th over.

Once again Bankstown’s Lacey Metcalfe was brilliant with the ball, extending her lead at the top of the wicket takers list with an impressive 4/23 from nine overs.

BEARS BITE BACK

UTS North Sydney rebounded from back-to-back losses to overpower Northern District by seven-wickets in a rain-marred contest at Tunks Park.

Opener Trisha Yadav (33 off 75) and Lilly Hayhurst (23 off 50) were best with the bat as ND’s were bowled out for 129. Bears opener Janani Vijaya Raghavan finished with 2/11 while Yuhansa Jayakody cleaned up the tail with 3/18.

Norths raced to a reduced target of 116 for the loss of three wickets in the 23rd over. Eva Jens (30* off 29) and Ekmehar Kaur Sidhu (24* off 31) top scored and added an unbeaten 55 for the fourth wicket.

PENRITH BACK-TO-BACK

Penrith continued their climb up the ladder after the Panthers outclassed Blacktown to move to fifth spot on the table.

Batting first at Joe McAleer Oval, Penrith ran into to early trouble as Era Bhoir – coming off a five-wicket Brewer debut – doubled down with the new ball to take 3/6.

Despite an early clutter of wickets, Charli O'Hare (31 off 79) and Olivia Dimmick (18* off 41) saw Penrith to a respectable 144 all out.

Following a delay due to rain, Blacktown struggled in difficult conditions and were bowled out for 52. Manorath Gill was best for Penrith, the opener struck early and finished with 4/12, while O'Hare chimed in late to wrap up the innings with 3/9.

SLAYERS’ RECOVERY

A patient half century by Katie Abrook proved the difference as St George-Sutherland defeated Parramatta at Old Kings.

Parramatta controlled the early play and looked to be on top when Georgia Aldridge (1/19) and Heidi Nicholls (3/13) left the Slayers struggling at 4/52.

Coming in at No.6, Abrook weathered the storm and brought up her 50 in the final over off 103 balls as the Slayers reached 9/152.

Parramatta were bowled out for 108 in reply with opener Sharon N Julien the major contributor with 55 form 97. Captain Sophie Weaver (2/21) opened the bowling and finished with two wickets alongside spinner Chrysta O’Sullivan (2/17).
