NSW Premier Cricket: Players of the Week, Rd 1 wrap, Sydney grade results, records

Head-turning batting, surprise results and a special performance from a veteran saw NSW Premier Cricket kick off with a bang. Sydney first grade cricket round 1 wrap and Players of the Week.

Sydney cricketer Ryan Felsch matched a record by the great Victor Trumper last season as the only player to twice hit 12 sixes – or more – in an innings.

This season Felsch, now in his 12th year with Sydney Cricket Club and living at Ashfield, produced the best all around performance of any cricketer in Sydney first grade on the opening weekend of the competition.

The 28-year-old, whose team won the Belvidere Cup last season, took 4-37 and then made 53 off 44 balls in Sydney’s win over Sydney University. Felsch hit six sixes - including four in one over from Hayden Kerr - but no fours.

“To come out against Sydney Uni, a great team, like that and win first out of the gate is very pleasing for us,” Felsch said. “The goal I want for us is to go back to back this season.

“It’s a good time for us. We have a lot of really good young talent even though we lost a fair bit of experience.”
