NSW Premier Cricket: Sydney’s Ryan Felsch matches Victor Trumper record
He’s a Sydney club cricketer who was a “fringe player’’ in his rep teams growing up. But now he’s matched an achievement of the great Victor Trumper more than 100 years on.

It started as an ordinary day in NSW Premier Cricket for one player but ended with his name being etched alongside one of the greats of the sport and his famous club scoring a record score.
In an extraordinary performance at Drummoyne Oval, Sydney Cricket Club’s Ryan Felsch wrote his name in the history books with a stirring 135 in Sydney’s win over Hawkesbury on Saturday.
His tally - which included 15 sixes and five fours - saw the 27-year-old from Penrith became one of just five players to hit 15 (or more) sixes in an innings.
However, he now also joins the legendary Victor Trumper as the only player to twice hit 12 sixes (or more) in an innings after scoring 12 sixes last season against Manly.
“I woke up and felt in a good mood. If you’d told me this was the way it would pan out I would have laughed at you,’’ Felsch said.
“It feels almost a bit disrespectful to be named alongside him. It’s a humbling thing, an obscure stat, something I can tell my kids about one day maybe.
“To think it hasn’t happened for over a 100 years is pretty amazing. It feels a little bit rude to be mentioned in the same sentence as him.’’
Trumper, in the 1902/03 season, hit 22 sixes in his 335 for Paddington against Redfern.
In the 1904/05 season he hit 15 sixes as he made 189 against Waverley.
On the weekend Sydney, 7-422, beat Hawkesbury, 267, by 155 runs in the highest team score in a limited overs match.
Felsch, who had played for Sydney for 11 seasons and is an account co-ordinator for Bluescope Steel, said he was more excited about his team winning than his own performance.
“We are really jazzed about that record for the team,’’ he said.
“We had wondered if anyone had hit the total before as a team.’’
Felsch said he was a fringe player in his rep teams as a youngster.
“I was never involved in pathways or anything,’’ he said. “I was always just a fringe player in my reps teams.
“I just enjoy my cricket. I would never turn down an opportunity if anything ever comes but the Belvidere Cup is the big one I’d like to check off. That’s on my personal goal.
“Cricket can be a frustrating game. You fail more than you succeed. So it’s nice to have a good game.’’
