POWERING his way from club to rep level and now to a winning Sydney team in the annual NSW Juniors Rugby Union City Country fixture, Connor Garratt of the Mosman Whales is aiming high.

The 14-year-old Junior Sports Star nominee aspires to play for the Wallabies.

Connor joined the Mosman Junior Rugby Club when he was six and has loved rugby ever since.

“My parents, they have always loved rugby a lot and they kind of just introduced it to me,” he said.

“My dad played rugby when he used to live in South Africa and he was very good at it too.”

Connor is still a Mosman Whale and also plays for his school, Reddam House.

The 14-year-old has played for the Norths rep team since he was in the under-10s.

He wore the number 6 jumper for the triumphant under-14s Sydney team which trounced their country cousins 34-5 in the annual NSW Juniors Rugby Union City Country fixture at Kiama on August 7.

Connor is aiming for state team selection next year when he becomes old enough to qualify; NSW players are chosen from the under-15s.

The forward credited his parents and his coaches for his success.

He has already tackled head-on the challenge of competing against boys who are two or three times his size.

“I have been working as hard as I can and going to the gym as much as possible,” he said.

Connor dreams of playing for the Wallabies one day.

“I want to try and make this like a life thing, like a job for me,” he said.

Rebel is the major sponsor of the awards.
