A VANDAL obsessed with the word “herpes” has defaced doors and table tops throughout Hotel Mosman with the word — much to the chagrin of staff and customers.
Owner of the hotel — affectionately known as The Duck — Brendon Barry posted photos of the “herpes” graffiti on Facebook last week.
He is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of “this insipid little cockroach” who has been tagging tables, doors and bathrooms.
Mr Barry hopes to ban the vandal for life from all Sydney hotels.
The vandal has used texta or liquid paper and more recently, a sharp implement to scratch “herpes” into various surfaces.
He strikes on weekends and evenings and lurks around the terrace and men’s toilets.
Licensee Peter Crocker said the vandal was an unwanted pest that no one wanted around.
Mr Crocker estimated the hotel would face a repair bill of thousands of dollars.
“The laminex toilet doors and the panels have to get replaced,” he said.
“The timber table tops have to get sent off, stripped back, re-sanded, stained and brought back.”
Mr Crocker said it was the worst graffiti he had seen at the venue and police would be notified.
“It’s disgusting how people in the local community can come to a local business and basically destroy or vandalise property when everyone is there to enjoy it,” he said.
“We are reviewing our CCTV footage and aim to catch the perpetrator.
“The herpes tag has been seen in other places around Mosman as well — further down Military Rd towards the zoo.
“Local business are more than welcome to jump on board and help us find this person and stop this happening in the community.”
