FOUR young tennis players from Mosman High have knocked out older opponents to win third place in the NSW Combined High Schools Floris Conway Cup.
The open girls’ tennis team is this week’s Junior Sports Star nomination in the Team Spirit category.
The group is made up of 14-year-olds Nina Lewis, Isabela Mortimer, Georgia Warner and Lara Unkovich.
Lara progressed through the Floris Conway Cup without losing a singles match and beat nationally-ranked players along the way.
The team faced experienced 18-year-olds in the competition in late July.
The girls have been competing together for two years and enjoy representing their team as individuals and doubles partners.
They have also overcome challenging behaviour from other competitors.
Head sports teacher and tennis coach Clint Johnson said the “pioneering young women” had achieved the school’s best result of any sports team in recent history.
“This was their first experience of representing the school at that level,” he said.
“The students were over the moon with their success and so was the school community.”
Johnson said the close-knit team had gone from strength to strength and battled adversity.
FOX SPORTS PULSE sponsors the Team Spirit category.
Rebel is the major sponsor of the awards.
