AUSSIE Stingers water polo player Hannah Buckling is enjoying relaxing at home in Mosman after the Rio Olympics.
“The Olympics is so great, it’s so unique,” she said.
“I am so proud to have been able to represent my country at the most elite level.”
But the soon-to-be medical student is contemplating “doing it all again” in four years’ time in Tokyo.
Buckling will return to the University of Sydney to start a Doctor of Medicine in 2017.
“I have not made any decisions at this point, but it’s definitely something I’m thinking about,” she said.
“It’s definitely doable; I just have to be pretty diligent with time management.”
Buckling was captivated by the colour, sights and sounds of the “incredible” opening ceremony in Rio.
“Walking out from the tunnel into the arena, there’s just so few feelings like that,” she said.
“The closing ceremony had the same atmosphere, but it was bittersweet because it’s all over.”
The Stingers’ dreams of a medal faded in the quarterfinal with a devastating penalty shootout loss to Hungary.
The Stingers finished sixth. Buckling was disappointed.
“I think we went in with the hopes of medalling, but to lose our quarterfinal in penalties was pretty heartbreaking,” she said.
“We just weren’t the better team on the day.”
The Olympics, however, did live up to Buckling’s expectations.
She met tennis superstar Serena Williams and Sydney Olympics gold medallist Cathy Freeman.
“It was one of the best experiences of my life,” she said.
