Miniature schnauzer lost, found six days later in Mosman Bay stormwater channel

BO the miniature schnauzer was hit by a car and was missing for six days. Miraculously, a dog walker found her “shivering and bereft” in a stormwater channel in Mosman.

ALONE, hungry and thirsty, Bo the miniature schnauzer had given up hope she would ever see her family again.

She had slipped through the garage door of her Mosman home, survived being hit by a car and disappeared.

Last week on Tuesday morning — six days later — dog walker Phillippa Taylor was in Reid Park.

Her four dogs lunged towards the deep stormwater channel which flows into Mosman Bay.

The Pitter Patter Paws employee looked down and saw Bo huddled against the wall of the channel.

Luckily there had been no rain.

Ms Taylor said the shivering dog was in shock and looked “very bereft”.

“It couldn’t get out. I had never seen a dog with such a look on its face,” she said.

“It had just given up; it was pitiful. It was very, very resigned to its fate.”

Ms Taylor climbed into the channel and a passer-by helped her lift Bo to safety.

She called the phone number on Bo’s tag and Bo’s owner quickly arrived.

“Louise fell on her knees to embrace this little dog,” Ms Taylor said.

“It made it one of the best days I’d ever had dog walking.”

Owner Louise Anderson said: “Phillippa is an angel! It’s just one of those little miracles that you’re really appreciative of in life.”

“I took Bo in the car when I picked up the kids from school and they all screamed when they saw her.

“They all said that their dreams had come true, because they had been dreaming that she was going to come back.”

Mrs Anderson thanked Ms Taylor and policewoman Leading Senior Constable Kylie Dodds.

“Kylie found out that people had witnessed Bo get hit and then she sort of disappeared and ran under a car,” she said.

“Bo must have scooted into the stormwater drain under that parked car — it drains out to the park.”

A vet check-up revealed Bo was sore but otherwise well.
