ISAAC Thompson may be the youngest member of the Australian karate team but that hasn’t stopped him from being placed in international championships.

The 13-year-old Glenwood High School student is a multi-talented martial arts practitioner, excelling in karate and jiu jitsu.

This week’s Junior Sports Star nominee has already shown he can handle international competition winning bronze in the kumite 14-15 age group at the 2015 World Goju Championships in New Zealand.

“I was 13 and the minimum age (for the world championship) is usually 14 but I didn’t find it intimating because I trained very hard,’ Isaac said.

“(But) receiving my black belt has been my biggest achievement.

“I have been doing martial arts for six years and I like all of the styles but prefer karate and jiu jitsu.”

Isaac, who holds a purple belt in jiu jitsu and is also graded in okinawan weapons and Muay Thai, has several national and state titles under his belt including the ISKA winter nationals,

NSW Open, Sydney City Open, Western Nationals and NSW Northern District Regionals.

Isaac was born into a martial arts family with his parents running two Pollet’s martial arts centres in Castle Hill and Penrith.

This has not only provided him the inspiration for his success but also encouraged him to take up coaching at an early age.

“I enjoy seeing the juniors achieve their goals and improve themselves,” Isaac said about his coaching sessions at the centres.

His mum Jade calls him “an exceptional young man who is looked up to by the students across the Pollett centres.”
