Suman makes a name for himself as a ‘supremely talented’ Wanderers youth keeper

FOR  a 15-year-old, Nicholas Suman is a precocious football talent.

At an age when junior players are vying for recognition by talent scouts, Nicholas is already the regular goalkeeper with the Western Sydney Wanderers National Youth League team and the third-choice goalie in their Hyundai A-League squad.

This week’s nominee for the Junior Sports Star competition wants to cement his place in the Wanderers, who rate him as “supremely talented”.
The 194cm tall Beaumont Hills teenager is remarkably grounded for his age, handling the challenges of playing in a higher age group and standard, with ease.

Nicholas Suman wants to turn pro when he is ready.

However, it took an injury to move from being a forward to becoming the regular keeper.

“I have been playing since I was four but only switched to keeping four years ago when our goalie got injured and I took over at goal,” said Nicholas, who turned out to be a natural in this key role.

“I now love goalkeeping and I am not intimated by playing against older or bigger players.

Nicholas Suman is a regular with the Wanderers youth team.

“My aim is to keeping improving this year and get more games with the under-23 Wanderers team.”

The Arndell Anglican College student trains four or five days a week as he is set on moving through the ranks into the A-League and then for foreign clubs.

“My long-time goals are to play professionally and play overseas,” he said.
