POLICE are hunting a burglar who targeted homes in Botany last week.

Residents watched as the man scaled walls and jumped garden fences as he went from house to house on Tuesday morning.

He was first reported in Dover Rd about 7.40am. A resident called police after they spotted the man, who is of Pacific Islander appearance, trying to break into a home.

After being disturbed, he set off on foot, jumping over garden fences. He was next reported in the gardens of houses in neighbouring Cranbrook St.

Dayang Aminah Ampuan Hassan, who lives in Cranbrook St, was getting ready for the day when the man appeared in her garden. He was wearing a grey jumper and a black beanie hat.

“Botany is a nice place, you don’t expect this,” Ms Hassan said.

“It is very scary. He ran off and started jumping over fences.”

Other Cranbrook St residents reported the man being in their back gardens around the same time, before he appears to have made his escape.

But a few hours later there was a break-in at a home in Chatham St, which adjoins Cranbrook St.

Paulo Ritter said numerous items were stolen from his home between 11am and noon, including a Mavic Pro drone, Reid mountain bike and white helmet, motorbike jacket, Kathmandu jacket and pants, two pairs of Oakley sunglasses, a pink North Face backpack and cash.

A man was captured on a neighbour’s CCTV riding off on Mr Ritter’s bike while wearing his helmet and motorbike jacket.

“I left my window open. He must have climbed through and cut the fly screen,” Mr Ritter said.

“He must have come back because he took so much. It makes me really angry. You work hard and then someone comes along and just takes it.”

No arrests have been made.

Police are investigating and would like to speak to anyone who recognises the man on CCTV.
