Pipers lead march in honour of our veterans

HUNDREDS took to the streets at the weekend to pay their respects to the men and women who have served this country.

HUNDREDS took to the streets at the weekend to pay their respects to the men and women who have served this country.

Pipers led the Mascot RSL-organised march from Mascot Library on Sunday.

Veterans from World War II as well as more recent conflicts proudly wore their medals as they remembered their fallen pals.

School groups and Scouts also joined the parade, along with Heffron state MP Ron Hoenig, Maroubra state MP Michael Daley and Kingsford Smith federal MP Matt Thistlethwaite.

They made their way to Mascot Memorial Park where wreaths were laid.

There will be dawn services across the region on Anzac Day, with thousands expected at Coogee.

Those wishing to attend should meet at Coogee Legion Club, Arden St, at 4.30am tomorrow.

There will also be dawn services at Botany Cenotaph, Booralee Park (6am), Maroubra Cenotaph, Anzac Pde (4.30am), and Matraville Cenotaph, Norfolk Pde (5am).

Commemorations will continue throughout the day, including the playing of two-up at venues across the southeast.
