Missing Persons Week: Fresh appeal to find Luis Fernandez

Eastlakes man Luis Fernandez was last seen by his family on Christmas Day last year.

Police have put out a fresh appeal to try and locate Mr Fernandez as part of Missing Persons Week.

The 79-year-old man was dropped home by his son to his Florence Ave flat in Eastlakes during Christmas Day. However, when his son returned on Boxing Day he was nowhere to be seen.

Raquel Fernandez called for the public's help to find her uncle Luis Fernandez earlier this year.

Police said the family of Mr Fernandez reported him missing on January 1 after he failed to return home.

It has now been almost eight months since he went missing and police are appealing for any fresh sightings or information.

Mr Fernandez, who suffers from a heart condition requiring daily medication, has been described by his niece Raquel Fernandez as a “gentle and caring” man who would “always keep in touch”.

“We all love him and miss him very much. We just want him home safe and well,” she said in April.

Mr Fernandez is described as being of South American appearance and walks with a limp.

He has a slim build, short grey hair, beard and has a scar on his right cheek and usually wears glasses.

Detectives leading the investigation traced Mr Fernandez’s movements to Eastlakes Shopping Centre on Boxing Day. He then travelled to Ingleburn in the city’s west where he withdrew money from an ATM.

Missing Persons Week is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of the issues and impacts surrounding missing persons and runs between Sunday, August 4 and Saturday, August 10.
