FOR more than 40 years John Waite has sold out venues around the world and shifted millions of records.
But remarkably he’s never stepped foot in Australia, despite enjoying considerable success here.
“I’m not sure why,” he said speaking from his Santa Monica home. “I hate to fly and it is such a long way but I’ve always wanted to come.”
The 65-year-old Brit arrives Down Under later this month ahead of a 10- date tour which includes The Juniors Kingsford on March 29. “The more I think about it the more excited I get,” Waite said.
As well as having been lead vocalist for The Babys and Bad English, he has received critical and commercial success as a solo artist.
His show, Wooden Heart, is in support of his new acoustic album of the same title.
“As I’ve got older I’ve gone back to my first love: acoustic. I first fell in love with guitar on the acoustic and I write most of my songs on the acoustic so I really wanted to take it out on the road.
“In the middle of the show we strip things back and it is quite intimate.
“People can shout out questions and requests. It’s really great.”
However, there is still plenty of opportunity to rock out, he said.
“The rest is just kick-ass rock, it’s going to be great fun.”
