A man pulled a tomahawk axe on his neighbour during a frightening attack inside a public housing estate in southeast Sydney.
A heavily-tattooed Bowen Hersol, 32, pleaded guilty last week to enter building and commit indictable offence over the ugly dispute.
Hersol was with his partner during the night of September 5 last year, at their public housing unit on Namatjira Place in Chifley.
The agreed facts stated Hersol and his partner both went inside a neighbour’s unit during the course of the night and a door was damaged.
The owner of the unit woke up to find the door damaged, and he believed it was caused by Hersol.
“How dare you break my door,” the victim yelled, from his apartment. “Come back upstairs now, you think you’re a big man.”
The agreed facts stated Hersol came back into the victim’s unit armed with a small tomahawk.
“He rushed toward the victim who raised his arms over his face and head to protect himself,” the agreed facts stated.
“The offender swung the tomahawk axe while the victim was raising his arms. The axe handle connected with the victim’s left hand.”
Hersol then picked up a chair over his head but the victim’s sister got between the two men.
Hersol put the chair back down and left the unit.
When police arrived about 1.30am they could not find Hersol or his partner and no serious injuries were reported, according to the agreed facts.
Police arrested Hersol a few days later in Homebush.
Hersol appeared in Central Local Court on Thursday via audio visual link from prison and a sentence date was set down for July.
A second charge of common assault will be included on a Form One and be taken into consideration during his sentencing.
His partner was not charged in relation to the incident.
