Students and staff were evacuated from Champagnat Catholic College (also known as Marist College) on Donovan Ave in Maroubra on Thursday afternoon following a fire at the school.
NSW Fire and Rescue confirmed they received a call about 2.30pm and the blaze was extinguished at 3.26pm.
A Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire had been contained to a small part of the school.
