A NEW suburb hosting 2400 houses and more than 7400 residents will be developed in Vineyard with the NSW Government promising improved transport options, a primary school, four sports fields, 24 ha of open space, cycling paths and a village centre.
Planning Minister Rob Stokes said the new precinct will deliver homes where they are needed and ensure the new community will have good infrastructure and public facilities.
“As our city grows and changes it’s important the community reaps the benefits of that growth with more jobs close to home, good transport, improved public facilities and high-quality green space areas,” Mr Stokes said.
“We’re working hard to deliver more new homes where they’re needed, and provide the infrastructure and public facilities to support those new homes.”
The strategy for the new precinct is expected to be ready by mid-2017 and the draft plan is open for public exhibition until February 28.
The neighbourhood areas will be connected through a network of streets and public spaces along the Killarney Chain of Ponds.
“We want to see Vineyard grow and flourish as a vibrant community, and this plan will help achieve this,” Riverstone state Liberal MP Kevin Conolly said.
Hawkesbury state Liberal MP Dominc Perrottet added: “Combined with the area’s rail and road infrastructure this will be another fantastic addition to our growing community.”
According to the Planning & Environment department, the draft plan will consider the local landscape including views, creeks and vegetation with the new homes to be located close to open space and parks.
“The Bandon Rd corridors will be extended following the alignment of Chapman Rd, Commercial Rd and Menin Rd,” the department says.
“The corridor extension will allow for construction of a new railway crossing beneath the Richmond rail line close to the existing alignment of Bandon Rd.”
There will be information sessions at the Vineyard Church, 357 Windsor Rd, Vineyard on Thursdays, February 2 and 9 from 5-8pm.
The new precinct will be the second major development in the area with Ingengia planning to build a 247-home retirement village at the Vineyard caravan park. It is due to open in early 2018 but is being opposed by a group of residents, The Friends of Oakville, who worry the new development will mean the end of their current lifestyle and businesses.
