ST JOHN Paul II Catholic College and Wyndham College, which share the Nirimba Education Precinct at Quakers Hill, remembered the servicemen and women who served our country during wars in a special Anzac Day service.
The schools held three ceremonies attended by representatives of Nirimba Sub section of the Naval Association of Australia at the two campuses last Thursday.
Wreaths were laid by Riverstone state Liberal MP Kevin Conolly, the students and children from the Nirimba TAFE Early Learning Childhood Centre.
“What was once the training grounds for navy apprentices at the HMAS Nirimba Royal Australian Navy Apprentice Training Establishment, is now the training grounds for students undertaking senior high school, university and TAFE education,” St John Paul II Catholic School spokeswoman Rachel Aquilina said.
“Just as it was many years ago, the Nirimba Education Precinct continues to be a destination for both education and success.”
Les Gibson, Michael Nash and Bruce Bowmaker, the naval representatives, spoke to Year 11 and 12 students. The ceremonies also featuring a video put together about the precinct, “educating the community of the past, present and future”.
“It is important for the students to understand and appreciate the history, stories and significance of belonging to the precinct,” Ms Aquilina said.
