MELISSA Sullivan’s rapid rise in martial arts has seen her win medals at state and international levels in just her second year of competing in karate.
The Beaumont Hills local is the Rouse Hill Times’ nominee for the Junior Sports Star Award, which is proudly sponsored by Rebel, and she trains hard throughout the week, taking even injuries in her stride.
“I am excited karate has been included in the 2020 Olympics, because my goal is to represent Australia at an Olympic Games,” Melissa, 15, said.
The William Clarke College student won a gold in kata and bronze in kumite at the Tournament of Champions at the Whitlam Centre, Liverpool.
She also tasted success at international level, winning bronze for Australia at the Oceania Cup in Noumea in May.
Melissa is not letting anything stand in her way as she pursues national and international glory.
She trains six days a week, in addition to her own fitness program, and is keen to stay ahead of her rivals.
Her dedication stretches to helping train younger children on Friday nights, even after completing three hours of training after school.
