Tayla Fraser has had a phenomenal season with her netball career catching the eye of national selectors.

The 175cm tall Rouse Hill player is making the most of the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship which comes on top of her being chosen for the Australian under-17 team.

This week’s Junior Sports Star nominee trains five or six days a week which includes training at the Australian Institute of Sport, state team, NSWIS and UTS St George Premier League in addition to competition.

“Getting the NSWIS scholarship has provided me with so much because I get high performance coaching facilities,” Tayla said.

“I think I have improved 100 per cent because of this and I have been very fortunate to have received individualised training sessions with (Australian Diamonds/NSW Swifts star) Sharni Layton.”

Tayla, who plays wing attack and centre for her teams, was a part of the NSW team which narrowly lost the 2016 national title to South Australia in Perth.

Tayla, who was one of the top junior touch footballers in NSW schools, is now focusing on the upcoming trials for the Australian squad while also concentrating on her studies.

“My main goal now is to make the national under-19 team and then take it from there,” the Oakhill College student said.

“I would love to play for the Australian Diamonds too ... that is my dream.”

Tayla is rated as ’bubbly and enthusiastic” according to those closest to her and is also able to inspire those around her.
