CHLOE Arndt, a rising star in the AFL, could be one of the pioneers of the new women’s teams being formed at the East Coast Eagles and GWS Giants for the new league.
The 16-year-old Rouse Hill High School is a regular with the NSW/ACT in the U18 Championships and is now looking forward to making the Eagles women’s team first next season.
Chloe, this week’s nominee for the Junior Sports Star, said she would love to make the first women’s team from the Hills.
“I am also excited to hear the Eagles and the Giants are fielding women’s teams next year because it allows the girls around the area to have an opportunity to play AFL,” Chloe said.
“I prefer to play AFL because I love the speed of the game, the kicking, marking and tackling component.”
Chloe, whose dad David is involved with the Eagles team, is enjoying a memorable season.
She has made the NSW/ACT State U18’s girls team for the 2016 national championships in Melbourne and also in the first Greater Western Sydney Female High Performance Academy.
“I currently play in the U18 Division 1 youth girls team at the Drummoyne AFL club and mostly play in the middle and sometimes in the forwards.”
The Year 11 Rouse Hill High School student wants to keep improving her skills on the field and learn more about the nutritional and injury management in sports.
“I continue to push myself as a female footballer, seek feedback from the U18 state coaches to increase my opportunities for potential inclusion in the 2017/2018 AFL female draft,” she said.
“Along the way, I would like to gain a better understanding of nutrition, injury management and recovery techniques to further assist with my journey.”
