A LITTLE over two years ago, Cameron Legg was dancing regularly before he found out he loved flipping more than moving his legs on the dance floor.

Now the 13-year-old Glenwood High School student is among the most promising gymnasts in Australia.

This week’s nominee for the Junior Sports Star award is dedicated to gymnastics.

For Cameron, the move to gymnastics two and half years ago has proved to be a challenge he is relishing.

“I used to enjoy flipping during dance classes and moved to gymnastics as I love being in that environment,” the Glenwood teen said.

“It’s been challenging and I need to work on building up my strength.”

Cameron has progressed rapidly since his move to the Castle Hill RSL gymnastics club, and caught the eye with a silver-medal winning effort at the 2015 Australian National Club Championships in Bendigo.

Earlier this year, he starred at the Combined High School gymnastic championships at the Hunter Valley capturing gold in floor, vault, pommel, parallel bars and rings events.

He also took home silver on the high bar and finished the championships with the individual gold around his neck.

“I am moving up in the levels and my next big competition is the Nationals in Bendigo from September 16-19,” said Cameron, who mentors and supports his younger colleagues.

“At the moment I am concentrating on improving my work on the pommel and rings while my long-term goal is probably competing at the Olympics.”
