Hills baseballers up for Little League World Series challenge

THE Hills baseball team, which recently won the Australian Little League Championship, is looking forward to making the most of its maiden appearance at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Hills squad, which is made up of players from four local clubs, Quakers Hill Pirates, Rouse Hill Wildcats, Castle Hill and Winston Hills, left last Friday for the event.

The Hills team, who are our team nominees for the Junior Sports Star Awards, will compete against 15 other teams from the US, and around the world.

“This is a huge experience and opportunity for the players,” Hills head coach Les Stockdale said.

“The main strength of this squad is their solidarity and team spirit.

“Our main hope is to play to our potential and represent Australia as the best we can, as it’s a very tough challenge. We organised some friendly games for the team to keep them sharp.”

The Hills take on Europe- Africa in their opening game tomorrow.

The squad: Ethan Treble, Harrison Wheeldon, Clayton Campbell, Brent Iredale, Mathew Clements, William Edwards, Will Unitt, Thomas Jackson, Stephen Courtney, Adrian Lautier, Ryley Gonzalez, Roan North and Mitchell Tritton. Head coach: Les Stockdale; assistant coaches: Chris Swan and Scott Wright; executive officer: Louise Riddell; John Yard and Jeff Catt (Hills Baseball Association).

The series, from August 18-28, will be telecast by ESPN.
