Just days after the Liberal Government was forced to defend the future of city-bound buses from Rouse Hill when the Sydney Metro northwest starts, it has promised shuttle buses to connect residents to train stations.

After a Riverstone Chamber of Commerce meeting, residents raised concerns the city-bound bus services from Rouse Hill would be cut or cease in May when the train opens.

Commuters criticised that potential move because the train line stops its journey at Chatswood.

Riverstone state Liberal MP Kevin Conolly said it was ridiculous to suggest the shuttle buses “any way represents a diversion or cut in resources”.

“From May there will be more transport options available to local residents than ever before,’’ he said.

A Transport for NSW spokesman said changes to the state government bus network would progressively be introduced when Sydney Metro starts.

“Staging the changes will allow us to analyse Opal data and travel patterns to ensure that we are delivering the right types of services where and when they are needed,’’ he said.

Under the shuttle bus plan announced today, Busways’ On Demand services will transfer commuters in The Ponds and Schofields to Tallawong and Schofields stations once the train line starts in May.

Riverstone state Liberal MP Kevin Conolly said passengers could book a shuttle service to collect them close to home to take them to their nearest Metro station.

“This will encourage more people out of their cars and on to public transport”, Mr Conolly said.

Services will operate on weekdays from 5am to 9pm.

Commuters in Glenwood, Bella Vista, and parts of Baulkham Hills and Castle Hill will be able to connect with Norwest, Bella Vista, and Hills Showground Metro stations using the shuttle service.

The On Demand services will roll out in line with the first Metro service in May.

Commuters can use their credit or debit card when booking through the app.
