The Rouse Hill Renegades Rugby Football Club has shattered fundraising expectations with the club’s 2019 Indianna Challenge Trophy raising more than $11,000 for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The Indianna Challenge Trophy is an annual charity match against Alexandria Dukes RFC that honours Indianna Martin, the daughter of Renegades club members Chris and Rebecca, who died of cancer last year at 22 months old.

After raising $6500 at last year’s inaugural event, the Renegades were hoping to reach the $10,000 mark this time around.

“$11,000 and climbing was beyond our expectations,” club secretary Nick Pfitzner said.

“The atmosphere both on and off the field was, in a word, joyful.

“Though it was a memorial, and therefore sad in a lot of ways, the good that brings people together for these occasions helped put a smile on everyone’s face.”

The match saw a vocal crowd witness a thrilling 33-31 victory from Dukes, who captured their first Indianna Challenge Trophy.

“We had some concerns over the wet weather, but everyone from council to our awesome

volunteers did their part to make the day special,” Rouse Hill Renegades club president Scott Mitchell said.

“I’m so proud of this club in supporting Chris and Rebecca in memory of Indianna.

“Charity work like this, and the relationship we’ve forged with Dukes, really sums up what rugby is about for Renegades rugby and I’d like to thank everyone involved.”
