At the Rouse Hill Renegades Rugby Club, effort and passion away from the field is just as important as it is on it.
The Kellyville-based club has been part of the NSW Suburban Rugby competition since 2007, claiming three premierships since then.
However it is not the on-field success the Renegades are most proud of.
“The club has a history of premierships and awards but it is off the field where our best work is done, having raised nearly $150,000 for charity in our 12 seasons to date,” club secretary Nick Pfitzner said.
“We support causes of all kinds in addition to having a strong emphasis on a social, inclusive culture.”
Mr Pfitzner said family was at the core of the club’s emphasis on charity.
“We understand the importance of family and supporting families through tough times,” he said.
“There is nothing tougher for a parent than their child being unwell, so our major donations to date have been to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.”

The pinnacle of the club’s charitable events is the Indianna Challenge Trophy.
The annual charity match against Alexandria Dukes RFC was established in 2018 and is held in memory of Indianna Martin, the daughter of Renegades club members Chris and Rebecca, who died of cancer last year at 22 months old.
After raising $6500 for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s Starlight Room at last year’s inaugural event, the Renegades hope to surpass the target this time around.
“This year we’re aiming a little higher to see if we can get that amount up to $10,000,” Mr Pfitzner said.
“At the end of the day, the score will be secondary to having some fun, playing competitive rugby with your mates and helping support charity.”
The Indianna Trophy Challenge match will kick-off at 3.30pm on March 23 at Kellyville Park on Memorial Ave, Kellyville.
