A Tregear man who is out on bail, despite being accused of concealing information about the murder of teenager Jason Galleghan, has failed to appear at court in relation to the charges.
Rebyll Oaariki, 24 is facing the charge of concealing a serious indictable offence of another person.
In November, Oaariki was first set to appear in Blacktown Local Court in relation to the charge but never showed. Due to not attending court an arrest warrant was issued, with NSW Police releasing Oaariki’s picture and appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts on November 30.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said following the arrest warrant, Oaariki was taken into custody at Day Street Police Station on December 4. He was then bailed at Parramatta Local Court later that day.
Oaariki was required to attend Blacktown Local Court on December 17 but once again failed to show.
Magistrate Fiona McCarron asked Oaariki’s lawyer where his client was, to which his lawyer replied, “I’m not sure where he is, your Honour”.
When The Blacktown Advocate followed up with NSW Police on whether a warrant had been issued for failing to appear in court, a spokeswoman said a warrant hadn’t been issued.
In Blacktown Local Court on Friday, Oaariki once again did not appear which visibly frustrated Magistrate Brian van Zuylen.
“There have been warrants issued for his arrest before,” he said. “Very well, no appearance (at) 10.50am. A warrant will be issued for his arrest.”
As it stands, there is no recorded warrant issued for the arrest of Oaariki and he remains on bail with the matter to return to court in April.
