A well-known local church building in St Marys will be undergoing a major revamp, morphing into a trendy childcare centre after the recent approval of the project.
Penrith Council has approved $2.4 million plans for the old St Marys Salvation Army building to undergo a makeover by Montessori Academy.
The building, at 42 Morris St, currently has a meeting hall in the far corner and single-storey residences on the eastern and southern sides of it.
As part of the approved project, the residential dwellings will be demolished and there will be alterations to the meeting hall so it can be used as a childcare centre for 113 children, according to the acoustic report.
There will be 28 children between the ages of zero and two, 45 children between the ages of two and three, and 40 children between the ages of three and six.
The centre will be spearheaded by Montessori Academy, which currently runs 30 childcare services across Sydney, catering to children aged six weeks to six years.
Childcare is set to run from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, for 51 weeks a year. They will be closed for public holidays and one week in the Christmas-New Year period.
The centre will be run by a maximum of 20 staff at any one time.
