Challenging course draws BMX stars

MORE than 800 BMX riders competed at the 2016 BMX State Championships at St Marys last weekend.
Penrith BMX Club secretary Jessica Heiler said the event attracted Western Australia and the ACT because the event had some of the best NSW riders who held Australian titles competing on the weekend.
Heiler said riders from other states wanted to compete against NSW’s best and another attaction was the amazing track in St Marys.
She said the competitiors want to know how they would fare against the best riders on the challenging track.
She said Penrith BMX Club did well, winning some of the titles.
Christopher Page won the 40-44 year men’s category and Sandy Cameron won the 40-44 year women’s category.
Kurt Chapman competed in a semi-final in the 13-14 years category and finished third in the final.
Sonny Lucas finished third in the 10 years boys and second in 8-10 years.
Declan Jaehne finished second in the 15 years boys semi-final and second again in the final.
Liam Underhill finished third in the final of the 25-29 years men’s and second in the cruiser category.
Heiler said the championship was great for tourism and business in Penrith and St Marys.
She said the championships were held over three days, with riders and their families visiting the highlights of the district.
BMX NSW chairman Neil Cameron said it was the best organised state BMX event he had attended.
