There’s been winning streaks, big upsets, massive score lines, thrillers, big bashes and some head turning tries heading to the halfway mark of the Sydney Rugby Union 1st Colts competition.
There’s also been a number of players standing out as NSW Waratah’s officials closely monitor performances across the board with Super Rugby Under 19 selections to be made.
With seven rounds played and 11 still to go. the cream has started to rise to the top after a rough early ride for some clubs.
Incredibly six teams have managed at least five wins from their seven outings and all but one have recorded a match victory this season.
The lead has swapped hands on multiple occasions after an early winning streak by Gordon saw them sit at the top the leaderboard for a number of weeks.
Manly then took over followed by their old northern beaches rivals Warringah.
Pre-season favourites Eastern Suburbs and Sydney University have yet to hit the top of the table but have been creeping their way back up in recent rounds.
Eastwood, with four wins from their seven outings, caused a boil over with their one point defeat of Manly in round seven = a result which delivered the competition lead to the Rats.
Multiple players from a variety of teams have also held top spot in the try scoring competition.
Eight players have now scored seven tries or more after seven rounds with another four going over six times each.
Ben Playford has been the standout in the kicking department and actually leads all Sydney Rugby Union grades with an extraordinary 40 conversions.
Randwick’s Felix Taranui has made 26 and rising star Joey Fowler 23.
Sam Sharman is next with 22 followed by Sam Blanck with 21.
Below we take a look inside the last two rounds of competition ahead of what is expected to be an enthralling rounds eight.
1ST COLTS ROUND SIX WRAP
The fast-starting Gordon’s winning streak came to an end in round six thanks to an impressive effort by Manly.
Manly edged out last year’s runners up with a 29-26 win at Manly Oval where Ben Bousie went over twice in front of a home crowd and Koby Owen scored twice for Gordon while Playford converted three.
This win shot Manly to the top of the table.
In another interesting encounter Sydney Uni beat Easts 36-21 with Mattius Tuipolotu scoring three tries for the victors.
Hooker Elliot Rainford scored two for Easts.
The Hunter Wildfires racked up their biggest win of the comp so far with a 54-5 defeat of the Two Blues.
Charlie Maroney and Ethan Hamilton both scored twice in this match with Osar Davey converting five.
The closest match was the one point thriller won by Eastwood against West Harbour where Luke Muriti scored twice.

1ST COLTS ROUND SEVEN WRAP
There were two shock wins in round seven involving a bottom of the table team and a finals favourite.
Warringah held their position at the top of the table with six wins and one loss followed by Gordon, Easts, Manly, Randwick and Sydney University with five wins and two losses each.
Every team in the competition has now scored a win bar the Two Blues who have scored 50 points for the season but had 417 scored against them.
Gordon has had the least points put on them with just 100 and have also scored the most to date with 255 points
Norths finally broke through for their first win in round seven with an excellent 37–22 victory over the Hunter Wildfires at Marcellin Rugby Park.
The biggest score line of the round was in the Easts v West Harbour match where the Beasties dominated 69–24.
In a battle between two pre-season favourites Warringah edged out Gordon 28–21 to inflict the early leaders second loss of the competition.
Sydney Uni recorded a big 64–12 victory over the winless Two Blues while Randwick defeated Souths 43–19. Manly then went down by one in a major shock against Eastwood who ran out 34–33 winners
Louis Fenwicke was one of the stars of the show in round seven with four tries for Easts in the battle with West Harbour. In the same game Calvin Levy and Joey Fowler both scored two tries each
Callum Mahara also scored two tries for Norths in their sensational win where Ben Whatley also kicked four conversions and three penalties and scored a try.
Alexander Ward scored two tries for Gordon in the match against Warringah while winger Kami Tuqalo continues to make his presence known with two tries for Sydney Uni in their big win over the Two Blues
Monty Schmude kicked seven conversions in this match and scored a try.
Randwick had a pair of two try heroes against Souths with Tom Farr-Jones and Caleb Sinclair-Harris both scoring twice.
Poni Ravubale scored two in Eastwood’s shock win over Manly with Tyler Burnie kicking three conversions and a penalty
James Warner came off the bench to score two for Manly in this thriller.
