Penrith RSL gets a deep cleaning after COVID scare

A western Sydney RSL has unveiled its bold, multimillion-dollar plans for an expansive redevelopment of the club.

Penrith RSL, at Tindale Street, Penrith, revealed a $30 million development application in a submission to Penrith Council last month, which would see the club get a brand new function centre, food and beverage bar and added retail space.

Existing indoor and outdoor gaming facilities will be reconfigured to allow for extra spacing between gaming machines, while the existing Sports Bar will be combined with a new food and beverage venue featuring a ‘generous’ outdoor terrace.

A planner for the major redevelopment of the club said the existing Star Buffet, Castle Lounge and Maze Cafe will be left in their current space but the Wave bar will be merged with one of the gaming areas.

Meanwhile, the developer said the proposed function room on the ground floor of the club is aimed to “help cater for the function demand in Penrith and the surrounding areas”.

The planner said that the proposed works are a “natural extension” on part of the existing site that is “currently under developed”.

An analysis of the existing site found there was “insufficient floorspace” in some of the club’s existing venues, a point made especially clear during the peak of the Covid pandemic with community feedback revealing patrons preferred having more space on a long-term basis.

The plans are currently in front of Penrith Council who have yet to make a decision on how they might progress.
