A new place to be – and be seen – is coming to Penrith with plans approved for a $30m Hilton hotel complete with rooftop bar and views over the Blue Mountains.

2021 budget to see big spending for aged care and infrastructure

UPDATE

Penrith is to get a Hilton after the company announced it would run the 140-room hotel planned for Kingswood.

When it opens, it will offer “upscale” accommodation, a full-service restaurant and bar, meeting facilities, a fitness room, rooftop bar, and a 24-hour grab-and-go retail store.

It will be the sixth Hilton Garden Inn hotel in the pipeline for Australasia and will be the third Hilton brand to come to Sydney, joining Hilton Hotels & Resorts and Curio Collection by Hilton.

Partnering up with Boston Global, Hilton is set to manage the new medi-hotel.

“The hotel’s location in the heart of the growing economic powerhouse of Western Sydney, already Australia’s third largest economy, will cater to both domestic and international leisure and business visitors travelling to this metropolis,” Guy Phillips, Hilton’s senior vice president of development in Australasia, said.

Anticipated to open in early 2023, the hotel will be only 16 kilometres from the new Western Sydney International Airport at Badgerys Creek, expected to accept its first arrivals in 2026.

The hotel is also strategically positioned in the middle of Nepean Health Hub, one of the region’s largest health precincts, which is currently undergoing a redevelopment of more than $1 billion and is an important part of the area’s largest industry, health care and social assistance.

Hilton Garden Inn Sydney Kingswood will also be a short walk to Western Sydney University, close to Penrith’s CBD as well as being at the foothills of the Blue Mountains.

Corey Cooney, Group Managing Director at Boston Global, said he is keen to bring luxury to western Sydney communities.

“Boston Global and its investors are delighted to partner with Hilton for the strength and recognition of their best-in-class brands,” he said.

“This project will bring their Hilton Garden Inn brand to Sydney for the first time, and the new hotel designed by Rothelowman will include high quality facilities to meet community needs, including wellness and food and beverage options.”

Penrith is set to get a $30m new hotel with a stunning rooftop bar with views to the Blue Mountains.

The development is being dubbed a ‘medihotel’ because of its proximity to Nepean Hospital and other medical facilities.

“The hotel will be marketed to pre and post-operative patients and their families, as well as general members of the public,” development documents state. “No medical advice or services will occur at the hotel.”

But perhaps most exciting for locals are the proposed facilities on the roof.

The seventh floor will boast rooftop hotel recreation and dining facilities including a gym, therapy rooms, meeting rooms, outdoor terrace areas and bar.
All of the bar, lounge and dining areas of the hotel will also be available to nonguests of the hotel.

It will be located on 28-32 Somerset St with the lots combining approximately 1,681 square metres. The consolidated site is located on the northeastern corner of Somerset and Hargrave Streets.

Two of the lots are currently vacant while the third lot contains a dwelling which will be demolished.

The ‘medihotel’ will be a seven storey building with 140 rooms spread across all levels, except for the seventh floor which will boast the rooftop facilities.

The ground floor will also have a lounge, dining, bar and reception area, according to the plans.

The proposal was amended to address council concerns which saw the addition of a third basement parking level, increasing the amount of parking spaces from 46 to 63, and the retention and protection of a neighbouring tree.

“The use of the internal areas of both the ground floor and rooftop bar/lounge/dining are limited to between 6:00am to 12:00am (midnight) every day,” according to the planning determination.

Music can only can be played within internal areas.
