She may have only been elected into the role two weeks ago, but new member for Lindsay Melissa McIntosh already has big ambitions.

Leading into last month’s Federal Election there was a focus from both parties on the marginal seat of Lindsay, with big dollar promises made.

Since defeating Labor candidate Diane Beamer by more than 10,000 votes and winning the seat with a six per cent swing, Ms McIntosh is determined to deliver quickly on her campaign promises.

“I have already been calling ministers and booking in meetings,” Ms McIntosh said.

“I made a commitment when elected that I would listen to the people and that I would have a plan for Lindsay, and I can’t wait to start delivering.”

The total value of the promises made to Lindsay during the campaign by the Liberal Party is more than $396 million.

The biggest of those was a major upgrade to Dunheved Rd and a community safety package for the area.

Ms McIntosh said it is “absolutely essential” she now delivers on those promises and has set a time frame for action to be taken.

“The first step for me is to get the office up and running and then it will be around ensuring project plans and consultations with the community are done properly,” she said.

“Taking that first step and getting the projects underway as soon as possible is absolutely important so the community know that I am committed to delivering on every single promise by the end of my term.”

As she prepares to set up her electoral office, Ms McIntosh has found herself reflecting on a time 20 years ago when she was a staff member for both former Prime Minister John Howard and former Member for Lindsay, Jackie Kelly.

Now she is running her own ship, but says she will be bringing the lessons learnt from her mentors into her new role.

“I remember standing at Penrith markets with Jackie every Wednesday as people came through and I saw how she acted with the people she represented,” Ms McIntosh said.

“What they both taught me which carried through my whole career is the importance of listening to people in your community and having conviction in solving their issues.
