Penrith Panthers Rugby League Club has again been named among the most violent venues in NSW.

The NSW Government’s 21st violent venues list reveals six offending clubs, bars and hotels which have been the location of the most number of violent incidents over the past 12 months.

Penrith Panthers saw 12 incidents occur in the past year and was classified as a level two violent venue.

Penrith Panthers declined to comment.

The violent venues scheme was initiated by the State Government in 2008 and this is the second consecutive year Panthers has featured on the list.

A spokesman for Liquor and Gaming NSW said venues such as Panthers which repeatedly appear on the list face the consequences.

“While alcohol-related violence continues to decline and the number of listed violent venues has substantially reduced, it’s disappointing where a venue continues to appear on the list,” the spokesman said.

“Venues with longstanding poor safety records face increased inspections, incur additional risk based licence compliance costs and risk having further regulatory action such as special restrictions on their licences.”

However, Liquor and Gaming NSW deputy secretary Paul Newson said there were positives in the list.

“Our state’s hotels, clubs and bars recognise that running a violent venue is not just bad for patrons, it’s also bad for business,” Mr Newson said.

“For just the second time since the scheme began in 2008, there are no venues in the highest level one category, while the number of level two venues has fallen from 10 to six.”
