A man busted grooming a 13-year-old girl online, who he had planned on sending sex toys, as well as possessing more than 200 videos of sickening child abuse material has appeared in court.
Jordan Robert Scott, 31, of Schofields appeared at Penrith Local Court on Friday, alongside his pregnant partner, and pleaded guilty to possessing child abuse material and grooming a child under the age of 14 for unlawful sexual activity.
Court documents state over a two-week period in April 2021, Scott exposed a 13-year-old girl – 17 years his junior – to “indecent material” with the intention of making it easier to procure her for sex. In August 2022, almost 18 months later, he was then found with child abuse material on his iPhone.
The court heard Scott, who has a 13-month-old daughter, would send the victim explicit material during their conversations about sex and even made arrangements to send her sex toys.
On his August 2022 arrest, he was then found to have 291 video recordings depicting child abuse material on his iPhone.
Following the plea of guilty, a detention application was made to see him taken to jail to await sentencing.
Scott’s lawyer argued his client should remain on bail as his situation was “dire” and an “unusually unfortunate combination of circumstances”.
The court heard Scott’s partner was due to give birth later in the year and relied on him around the house and to support their daughter.
The lawyer also told the court Scott had no prior criminal history, was a man of otherwise good character and struggled with significant mental health issues which pre-date his offending.
The police prosecutor acknowledged while Scott was experiencing hardship, it did not amount to special or exceptional circumstances.
Magistrate Stephen Corry ultimately revoked Scott’s bail and remanded him in custody. He will be sentenced next month.
