A man has faced court for the first time on allegations he raped a child under the age of 16 in western Sydney.
Darren James Wood, 49, of Colyton, appeared before Magistrate Geoff Hiatt on two charges related to an alleged incident earlier this month.
He has been charged with sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16 and sexual assault.
Police will allege Wood had sexual intercourse with the child without their consent, and knowing they did not have their consent.
He was arrested overnight and appeared via AVL from Amber Laurel Correctional Centre in Emu Plains.
During his brief mention, Magistrate Hiatt said the matter was in the early appropriate guilty pleas timeline and could take some time to resolve.
He ordered the prosecution to serve a brief of evidence on Wood’s lawyers, and adjourned the matter to November 27.
Wood, who has links to the Illawarra region and the Blue Mountains, did not apply for bail, and it was formally refused.
