A western Sydney man broke into his ex-partner’s home and attempted to break down her bedroom door armed with a knife when he saw her in bed with another man.

Alex Osborne, 26, of Schofields, pleaded guilty to aggravated break and enter, intentionally damage property, and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence during an appearance before Magistrate Geoffrey Hiatt at Penrith Local Court on Sunday.

According to court documents, Osborne called his ex-girlfriend several times on March 21 before driving to her home in Prospect at about 9.20pm.

When he arrived, he walked towards the house and saw his ex-girlfriend in bed with another man.

Court facts show Osborne flew into a rage and broke the front door of the house down by barging into it with his shoulder.

Once inside, he armed himself with a serrated steak knife from the kitchen and walked towards the bedroom.

Osborne’s ex told the man in the room to close the bedroom door while Osborne was walking down the hallway, and he proceeded to stab the bedroom door three times, leaving slash and stab marks in the wood.

He then walked back to the kitchen and attempted to plunge the knife into his own stomach, but was forcibly stopped by his ex.

Osborne then left the house and stabbed the man’s front tyre with a knife before deliberately crashing into his car.

Police arrested him just after 9.30pm just a few streets away where he told them he “really didn’t know what just happened”.

He said he’d “lost the plot”, that he’d “stuffed up” and that he’d pay to fix all damage he’d caused.

During his appearance in court, Osborne successfully varied his bail to allow him to take a full-time position at a hardware store in Rouse Hill.

The DPP also withdrew three charges against him.

He will be sentenced in Parramatta District Court on October 23.
