Darren Peachey, 38, of Glenmore Park pleads guilty to commercial cocaine supply

A western Sydney dad who supplied kilos of cocaine in a multimillion dollar syndicate while working at a local council told a court he had “absolutely nothing left” since his arrest. See how he blew his criminal cash.

A western Sydney father who supplied more than two thousand grams of cocaine in a multimillion dollar drug syndicate has told a court he is “in more debt than ever” and has “absolutely nothing left” since he was arrested in March last year.

Darren Peachy, 38, of Glenmore Park appeared at Penrith District Court via video link, pleading guilty to supplying large and commercial amounts of cocaine.

Agreed police facts tendered to the court state from June 2020 to March 2021, Peachey supplied around 1275 grams of cocaine to a syndicate operating throughout Bathurst and parts of western Sydney.

The facts also state the father-of-one supplied a further 850 grams of cocaine through smaller scale drug deals in which he would charge around $300 per gram.

Peachey was implicated in the syndicate as an upline supplier buying cocaine by the ounce before selling it up the chain in return for cash.

The court heard in 2020, Peachey was working for Blacktown City Council, and his wife had just moved into their newly built house when he became involved in drug supply.

Around the same time he was spending around six hundred dollars a week on his personal cocaine use, a habit he hid from his then-pregnant wife.

When giving evidence Peachey said he would extract three grams from the cocaine he bought which he would either sell or use himself and then replace it with glucose before passing it on.

Peachey also said he was battling both a cocaine and gambling addiction and was in a “very bad financial position” when he became involved in the ring and reaped little personal benefit from it.

“I was using and paying for drugs and I had different kind of loans I was trying to pay for.”

“We’d go the pubs and clubs I was putting a lot of what I made from drugs into TAB and pokies”, Peachey told the court.

The court heard Peachey made around forty to fifty thousand dollars from the ring but now had “absolutely nothing left”.

“I haven’t benefited from this. I’m in more debt than ever before. Jail takes everything away from you and I’m disgusted at my selfish behaviour and will never forgive myself, ” Peachey said.

His wife, who the court heard was forced to move out of the home previously shared with Peachey, was flanked by supporters as she sat stony faced through the court proceedings, listening to her husband give evidence.

The court also heard Peachey was not willing to name anyone else involved in the syndicate over fears for his family’s safety.

Since he entered custody in May, Peachey had been working in the jail’s cafe, had completed a Certificate I and II in hospitality, and had been attending narcotics anonymous.

Peachey told the court he would never use drugs again and was determined to “come out of jail a better person”.

The matters were adjourned and will return to Penrith District Court on December 12.
