Reports of yelling and screaming from a hotel room in Penrith CBD quickly led to police establishing a crime scene after uncovering over sixty grams of ice and large amounts of cash underneath a pillow.

Joshua O’Shea, 37, of Penrith appeared via video link in Penrith Local Court on Friday pleading guilty to drug supply and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

According to facts tendered to the court, on September 4 police responded to reports on yelling, screaming and banging coming from a room at a hotel on High St, in the Penrith CBD.

Upon arriving at the hotel police were given an access key to room 27 by the hotel’s manager and soon heard yelling from a male and female voice.

Believing what was happening may be a breach of the peace police gained entered the room, where they found O’Shea sitting on a hotel bed surrounded by a number of small clear baggies containing a clear crystal substance, a set of scales and other drug apparatus.

A woman, also of Penrith, was standing next to O’Shea.

After surveying the scene police introduce themselves to both O’Shea and the woman who were cautioned and place under arrest.

O’Shea was then taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged and declined to participate in an electronically recorded interview.

A search of the room uncovered a total of 65 grams of methamphetamine, $16,000 in cash hidden under a pillow and divided into bundles of 1000s, a further $450 in a Lacoste bag, and various drug apparatus.

On court documents police warn bail would not be “reasonable” for O’Shea because of his long history of violence and aggression which had increased over time.

O’Shea was due to be sentenced on Friday, but the matter was adjourned and will return to Penrith Local Court on December 16.
