Cranebrook: Man and Woman charged after police pursuit in western Sydney

Shocking footage has shown the moment police were allegedly confronted with a gunman in western Sydney which saw a man and a woman charged with numerous offences. See the video.

Shocking footage has shown the moment a man allegedly produced a gun during an encounter with police in a western Sydney street.

Two officers from Nepean Local Area Command can be seen speaking with the driver of a white SUV on Carpenter St, Colyton, on Tuesday afternoon.

After a brief encounter a number of loud bangs can be heard.

Witnesses reported three shots being fired as one officer told the man to “drop the gun” after another called for backup.

“Nepean Seven urgent, Carpenter St 195, need police immediately,” one officer said.

“Drop the gun, drop the gun now,” the other says as the driver of the car frantically battles to flee the scene.

Both officers were seen drawing their guns and aiming it at the driver of the white SUV on Tuesday afternoon.

A NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed an emergency operation was formed following a car chase through western Sydney, with NSW Police denying several witness reports that shots had been fired.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested a short time later on Soling Avenue, Cranebrook.

The man was seen running into bushland with officer from Nepean Police Area Command, the the Dog Unit, PolAir, the Riot Squad were called in.

Following an extensive search, the 29-year-old man was located at the intersection of Andrews and Castlereagh roads at Cranebrook and arrested.

The man was taken to Penrith police station and charged with a number of offences including two counts of assault police in execution of duty, use offensive weapon in company to prevent detention, driving while disqualified and police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, and destroy or damage property.

The woman was also charged with a number of offensives including aggravated enter dwelling in company intent to steal, assaulting police in the execution of duty, larceny and possession of prohibited drugs.

Social media reports suggested several shots were fired following the car and foot pursuit .

On Tuesday afternoon, a witness said she saw as many as 30 Riot Squad police officers blocking off street surrounding the off-leash dog park at Soling Cres, Cranebrook.

“Police were warning us to stay inside and lock our doors while they were blocking off surrounding streets to the park,” she said.

While a neighbouring resident said police helicopters were hovering overhead, with officers blocking access to their street.

“There was about a ten-minute chase through surrounding streets,” she said. “The helicopter has been hanging around for an hour.”

Both the man and the woman were refused bail and are due to face Penrith Local Court on Wednesday.
