New data has revealed just how many places NSW residents can go to access either the Pfizer or the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Ministry of Health data, obtained by NewsLocal, reveals 2650 providers are offering Covid-19 vaccinations in NSW, while 1697 providers were recorded in Victoria and 1507 in Queensland.

There were 876 clinics in Western Australia, 524 in South Australia and 170 in the ACT.

In Tasmania, residents have 135 hubs to receive the jab, while the Northern Territory has 73.

When it comes to access to the Pfizer vaccine, the number of providers drops dramatically across the country.

However, supply of the rare vaccine to NSW GPs, hospitals and NSW Government vaccine hubs has seen a total of 723 centres open to the public, a figure greater than the combined providers of Queensland and Victoria.

A total of 384 facilities currently offer the Pfizer jab in Victoria, while 332 clinics are providing it in Queensland.

In WA, there are 229 GPs and vaccine hubs administering Pfizer, while there are 124 available centres in South Australia, 83 in the ACT, 35 in Tasmania and 16 in the Northern Territory.

The Federal Government declined to release vaccination administrator data, which led to News Corporation working to obtain the information through the Ministry of Health’s vaccination eligibility portal.

The release of the data across the country comes as general practitioners — including the likes of Dr Kerryn Phelps — hit out at the “shotgun approach” witnessed when the Federal Government determined clinics rolling out the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.

Dr Phelps described the process of applying to become a Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine provider as a “difficult logistic exercise” with the need for a new booking systems and dedicated post vaccination monitoring space.

“The Federal Government announced on its website who administrators would be before doctors were informed,” Dr Phelps said.

“It wasn’t until a day before the distribution of vaccines to providers that we found out how many we were getting at each clinic.”

Dr Phelps said her Bourke Street Clinic in Surry Hills received just 50 doses in a week, while her Cooper Street Clinic in Double Bay received 400 doses of AstraZeneca.

“There was no explanation, no strategy or algorithm as to the difference between the number of doses,” she said.

The general practitioner said several of her colleagues have refused to apply for Pfizer vaccines, “because they don’t want to have conflict with patients being administered AstraZeneca when there is Pfizer in the clinic”.

Australian Medical Association president Dr Omar Khorshid said the organisation was convinced all Australians wanting the vaccine will have had access to both doses by the end of the year.

“That doesn’t mean that everyone will have fronted up,” he said.

“But I hope what’s happening in Sydney right now, what’s happening around the world, is a wake-up call for every Australian who is eligible and who hasn’t yet fronted up for their vaccine to go and do that because that is a thing you can do.

“It’s the only way for our country to get out of this situation when our borders are closed, we can’t go anywhere, we can’t do what we want, and half the population is in lockdown.”

The Federal Government’s latest data on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout revealed 1.345 million doses had been administer across the state by July 25, with 15,448 administered within a 24-hour period. A total of 11.21 million vaccine doses have been administered across the country to July 25.

The Federal Health Department was contacted and is yet to respond to questions.
