After two months of home-cooked meals and the occasional cheeky takeaway or delivery, this is the day western Sydney punters have been waiting for.

With government restrictions lifted, pubs, clubs, restaurants, and cafes will be allowed to open their dine-in sections for up to 10 people at any given time.

XS Espresso based in the famous Emu Hall in Emu Plains is one of the many cafes and restaurants that will reopen tomorrow, and store manager Cristian Gorgees said staff were excited.

“We are very happy that we’ll reopen,” Mr Gorgees said. “More importantly, our staff can come back to work, get some hours, and get an income, especially because we haven’t been supported by any of the government schemes.

“The most important thing is getting customers and staff back in the doors to get everyone feeling comfortable again.”

Mr Gorgees said now was the time for people to support cafes and restaurants that chose to reopen.

“Don’t be afraid to go and dine out to support your community,” he said.

“Everyone is taking extra precautions when it comes to hand sanitisers and cleaning.

“I’ve got industrial cleaners going through the restaurant today in preparation, and we’ll have cleaners rolling through each night.”

However, many larger restaurants have chosen not to reopen, saying the rules are still not viable for restaurants of their size because of the customer restrictions.

The Meat and Wine Co in Parramatta confirmed they would not be reopening, as did Sittano’s in Penrith.

In a Facebook post, Sittano’s said they would “continue to wait and hope that things get better and allow us to return to a normal trade, however the most important thing at the moment is the health and wellbeing of our staff, customers, friends and family”.

Another popular Penrith eatery Burger Head announced they would remain takeaway only.

“We respect the government’s decision and they are much better informed and advised then we are, however, we feel that we want to do our part as a business for the community and maintain a responsible approach to the virus and for this reason, we have decided to remain takeaway only despite the negative impact it may have on our bottom line as a business,” they said in a statement.

Campbelltown RSL was the only club to confirm it would re-open it’s doors to Arie Cafe with an announcement on Facebook.

“We hope to see some of our members feeling isolated for a cuppa, chat and some lunch,” the post stated.

Other clubs – including Panthers Penrith, Rooty Hill RSL, St Marys Leagues Club, Wenty Leagues Club, and Parramatta Leagues Clubs – have not yet confirmed any details of reopening.
