Police Investigate Dangerous Drivers Caught in Dash-Cam Footage on Major Sydney Highway

One of the drivers involved in a dangerous high-speed alleged road rage incident in Sydney’s southwest has handed himself in to authorities after footage went viral in the past 24 hours.

The shocking episode, caught on dashcam, appeared to show a ute driver’s repeated attempts to overtake a small truck by using the breakdown lane on the Hume Highway, near Menangle about 6.45am on Saturday.

Each time the ute manoeuvred to overtake, the truck appeared to move into the shoulder lane, allegedly blocking the ute from getting past. At one point, the truck appears to slam into the front left side of the ute as traffic builds up behind the vehicles.

The driver of the small truck, a 47-year-old man from Ruse, handed himself in at the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command headquarters about 4pm Wednesday.

He was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and will appear before Campbelltown Local Court later this year.

Police are continuing to search for the ute driver involved in the incident.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander assistant commissioner Michael Corboy said “beggars belief” the number of people accused of breaching road rules with nine people charged for separate speeding and reckless driving incidents across Sydney yesterday.

“Even one car stopped for speeding is one too many and disappointing to see,” he said. “Our officers will continue to conduct speed enforcement duties and patrol areas to ensure our roads are safe.”
